Newborn Preparation

Congratulations on your new arrival!! I can’t wait to work with you and capture your baby in their sweet newness! I put this together as a little prep sheet so that your session will run as smoothly as possible. I know we’ll have a great session!

Please have the home at 75-80 degrees. Set it about 1 hour before our appointment time. This allows the home to heat up and be warm for your little one.

Swaddle the baby and diaper loosely so as not to leave any marks. On the same tone, no elastic clothing or socks so that there are no marks in those areas.

Please only have those that are going to be photographed present. The less people and noise around, the less distraction.

Parents, I would love for you to be in the photos with your new addition! At the very minimum, I’ll be using your hands in the photographs. Keep nails simple (no bright nail polish for mom) and clean. No make-up with sparkles for mom. Choose jeans over khakis. Keep jewelry to a minimum (just wedding rings, simple earrings, no watches). Black shirts are great, as well as a white or cream top. For the moms 3/4 is a great length. Please don’t worry if you don’t have anything on hand, we’ll work with what you have!

Please let me know if there is a special pose that appeals to you or something special you would like your baby photographed with and I will do my best to accomodate that request :)

Please nurse/feed your baby before our session.

Newborns pee and poop. A lot. Especially when they are naked! Don’t worry, as a mother of 2 myself and having done numerous sessions, we just change/reposition blankets and move on.

Newborn sessions can take anywhere from 1-4 hours, just depending on the temperment of the baby. I ask that nothing else be scheduled (such as doctor’s visits), so that it is a stress free session and we can all relax and just go with the flow of your baby!

I can’t wait to work with you on your newborn session. I know it will be a great one!
